Blizzard Academy offers the only Avalanche Canada AST 2 accredited course in Australia. If you've completed AST 1 and gained some backcountry experience, AST 2 offers the opportunity to further enhance and hone your skills.

During this four-day course, one day is dedicated to classroom sessions, where you'll expand upon your existing knowledge of snow science, terrain assessment, weather analysis, planning, and emergency management.

The following three days are spent in the field under the guidance of our most seasoned instructors. Here, you'll delve into advanced snow assessment, stability tests, intricate decision-making processes, in-depth trip planning, and route finding, handling unforeseen situations, and tackling more complex companion rescue scenarios.

AST 2 takes you further by equipping you with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to venture into more challenging terrain, embark on multi-day excursions, and pursue exciting objectives, this serves as the pinnacle of your recreational avalanche education.

A minimum of 10 days of backcountry experience after completing your AST 1 and a copy of your AST 1 certificate is required to register for this course.

The minimum age for the AST 2 certificate is 16.
